Workshops June 2012

My new book on sale and signed at my June 2012 Workshops.

I am so sorry my blog is falling quiet as I have workshops this week which will be taking all of my time. Anyone who has attended my sessions will know the amount of work involved in the preparation for each day and as my classes are always fully booked the weeks they run in are really busy.

Today started with the "Watercolours With Life Jubilee" session and got off to a colourful start using just red and blue shades with the white of the paper acting as the third colour.

As always the day passed by far too quickly and everyone was brilliant!

I have two more themed workshops this week and then I will be back online before I leave for Patchings next week.

It is a terrific summer regardless of the wet weather at the moment!

Atmospheric Watercolours : Selling Fast!

Atmospheric Watercolours
Selling Fast!

This week saw me in a mild panic as I discovered there may not have been enough books in stock at the Frame Gallery in Odiham, Hampshire for my book signing event there the next day.  Friday night was to be the Private Preview of my solo exhibition "An Artist Journey" and there was going to be book signing also. The Gallery were expecting the evening to be a really popular event and the number of books they had may not have been enough for the celebratory occasion.

I made an urgent call to my publishers on Thursday, the day before the show. My own stock of copies has been regularly selling so fast. I also needed my own supply for my workshops next week and  upcoming art events.

Search Press, my incredible publishers, jumped to the rescue and not one but two orders of supplies made their way to my cottage in time for the show and it was just as well! The gallerys prediction was spot on.We would have sold out very quickly as I signed book after book on the night.

It is incredible how fast my new book is selling and how quickly it is becoming popular. Some of the email messages I am reading from wonderfully kind people who have bought my book, complete strangers to me, have left me almost in tears. Tears of happiness because my goal of writing this  publication was to open the doors so that everyone from all walks of life and levels of being an artist would adore watercolour as much as I do.

To hear feedback of how much my book is loved makes all that time locked away in my studio working on each chapter so worthwhile. I wanted to have the feeling of giving gifts away in the form of exciting techniques and ideas, and I also wanted to give inspirational encouragemnet at times when artists feel they have self doubt.

I am overwhelmed and very touched by the kind comments coming my way and so very grateful.

Thank you to everyone who has bought a copy, wrote a review or sent me an email.

It really does mean the world to me and you are making this artist turned author so incredibly happy.

Thank you!

A Week in an Artists Life 2012

At the Wey Gallery in Godalming last Sunday. One week ago, a week leading to three Private  Viewings and an amazing chain of book launch events.

PRIVATE PREVIEW
Solo Exhibition
Surrey
Looking back I am not  quite sure how I managed the last few weeks. Leading up to my Private Preview at the Wey Gallery in Godalming there were many trips involving deliveries, framing decisions ,catalogue and pricing meetings for several events. And then the fabulous show "Expressions" showcasing my new collection of 2012 watercolours opened last Sunday and the gallery has been full of visitors ever since. When I talked to the gallery yesterday it was really wonderful to hear the positive feedback on my work. One visitor told the owners that they had never seen such an amazing body of work in watercolour before and another said they were completely blown away by the vibrance and brilliance of the collection. All wonderful acknowledgements for my original art and I am thrilled. I will be visiting the gallery to sign more books shortly and looking forward to seeing the show before paintings disappear to the collectors who now own favourite pieces from the exhibition.

This major solo exhibition looks incredible and will run until 11th June. Some of the paintings from the collection can be viewed in an online catalogue via this link.

Driving!
A drive to Chichester faced me as I had to deliver my art for the SFP ,Society for Floral Artist Exhibition 2012. Having labelled my pieces I loaded my car and made the drive through gorgeous countryside to reach the venue in Sussex. I was quite surprised while walking back to my car when someone tapped my shoulder and asked me if I was Jean Haines! They said my hair gave me away . They loved my work and my new book, and were really happy to meet me in person. We talked about watercolour for some time  before I drove home knowing I would be making the journey again the next day for the opening.

Tuesday 29th May 2012
PRIVATE PREVIEW
Society Exhibition
Sussex

Another drive but this time in the late afternoon so that I could be at the private Preview of the SFP Society of Floral Painters Annual Exhibition which takes place in the Oxmarket Arts Centre of Chichester.  All the shop windows in the high street were  decorated to celebrate the Queens Jubilee so red ,white and blue adorned every single shop. It was quite something to witness! The exhibition displays many fine examples of floral art work, many in a botanical style and it was fascinating to see a collection of art purely based on my favourite subjects.

Painting
Time  to catch up in my studio as I am currently working on a new collection for an exhibition in July 2012.  This has yet to be advertised so I will share more news on this later!.But it was heaven to be back in my studio again working on large paintings that as yet have not be seen by anyone other than the gallery.

Thursday 31st May 2012
Panic!
An urgent  plea is sent to my publishers as I have a book signing  the following night and it looks as though we may not have enough books for the event. My new book is selling so quickly that keeping copies in stock is becoming increasingly difficult. Will the books arrive in time for the show tomorrow?  I deliver the fabulous card designs that are to be launched at the Frame Gallery during my solo exhibition and love how Jan the owner has hung my work. The gallery looks fabulous so after last minute details and decisions for Friday night I can again return to my studio.

Friday 1st June 2012
PRIVATE PREVIEW
Hampshire
I have made it to the end  of another full week. Friday saw the Private Preview of my solo exhibition " An Artist Journey" at the Frame Gallery in Odiham, Hampshire. The gallery was full, champagne flowed and I lost count of the number of books I signed. I lost count of the red dots appearing too but I will write a full post on the show in another blog entry but it was fantastic!

I had a  very full week last week leading into next week when my June workshops commence so it really is a wonderfully active life I am leading all because of my passion for watercolour.

What a journey!

Thread Bear: Emotional Journey

"Thread Bear"
"Believing you can paint and having the confidence to try makes all the difference to becoming a successful artist"J.H.
One of the many quotes from my new book.

**********

This morning I have been pricing my collection of watercolours for my solo exhibition "An Artists Journey" which opens at the Frame Gallery in Odiham, Hampshire on June 1st 2012, this Friday evening with celebratory drinks as part of the launch campaign for my new book "Atmospheric Watercolours".

In the Introduction section of my new book is a painting entitled " Thread Bare". I must admit I adore this painting. In a way it really is a huge part of "My Artists Journey" in that this is where I began like many artists. Painting as a child.  But my reason for loving art wasn't just about creating on paper. I was brought up by my Grandmother who believed children should be seen and not heard. To keep me quiet she would place large wax crayons and paper in front of me. I would sit on a chair by a large table with my skinny little legs dangling and pass hours colouring all the things in life I would dearly love to own. Like a dog that I could play with for hours each day, and all the flowers I knew I shouldn't pick from my Grandfathers gorgeous garden.

I learned to be quiet and as a child I could easily disappear into the background as this was where I felt safe.

My world of colour took me to many imaginary places that in my mind would always be full of love.

I grew up and it is quite ironic that the very thing that my Grandmother gave me to keep me quiet all those years ago has actually given me a voice with which I can be heard all over the world because of my art and passion for painting.

Isn't that amazing?

And  the connection with the bear painting in my book ?

The last thing my mother gave me was a teddy bear. She left when I was very small and I always believed she would come back for me. But she didn't and that bear gave me comfort for a very long time. It was my starting point for a new life back then and is a starting point in my new book.

I strongly believe in the power of positive thinking and positive energy.

In my book you will find many wonderful pages full of inspirational tips on how to succeed in watercolour but these tips often flow into our lives in ways we don't expect. Like an unwanted child being given crayons to keep them quiet. I blossomed from that "gift"

Believing we can do something makes us achieve.

I wasn't sure whether to frame "Thread Bare" or not but he will be in my show at the Frame Gallery and I hope he is loved because he is a very special bear! He also features in my new art collection which will be launched during the exhibition.

Everyone is welcome to attend and if you would like to meet me or have me sign a copy of my new book which will be for sale please check the gallery web site for full details.
