Don't Give Up

 Don't Give up!

"Herb Picker"
from my book
"How to Paint Colour and Light in Watercolour"

I have had some wonderful emails recently and many include comments from artists who feel  they aren't getting anywhere or at least are nowhere near where they wish to be as an artist. I have also had some  thought provoking questions regarding my own career.

The best advise I can honestly give anyone who loves painting is simple.

"Don't give up!"

Imagine learning any skill in life. Learning to drive, learning how to play a musical instrument well, learning  how to become trained as a physician, architect or teacher. Things do not happen overnight. Only practise will take you to where you want to be. So if your work isn't as wonderful as you would like it to be ask yourself how much time are you giving to your art?

If you are painting for a hobby enjoy every single brushstroke and have fun while you create. If however you want your art to become a professional career then you have to take a serious look at how much time you spend painting. Also consider how  you are growing and evolving from your own talent and imagination.

For me painting is a passion. I never tire of seeing new subjects or new ways to paint them. One event has happily led to another. I often feel my path was chosen for me as I have met the most wonderful contacts who happen to like my style and have asked me to write features, test products, exhibit, demonstrate or teach. The invitations that come my way are purely because I love what I do so much that it is evident and  I am happy share my passion for working in watercolour.

I paint daily. I love capturing new subjects with constantly evolving new techniques.

So am I  where I wish to be as an artist?

Definitely not!

I am further down the road in my journey from when I first set out but oh wow is there a long road in front of me and I want to enjoy every step of the way.

So I too

Won't give up!

Painting Roses in Watercolour

Take Time to Paint The Roses!

Roses demonstration from this years wonderful "Painted Escapes"
at Four Seasons Hotel,Hampshire

It is amazing how popular my blog post " How to paint Roses in a Loose Style " is. It seems to be one of the favourite blog entries I have made here. With Summer coming to an end and the last roses blooming in my garden I know I need to paint a few before it's too late.

How about you?

Through The Rainbow

New Season , New Watercolours!

 "Through The Rainbow"

I have often thought I look at the world through rose coloured spectacles. I see everything as a beautiful subject to paint and everyone I meet as a new friend. Life is far too short to feel differently.

This week I have worked  on my next book as the  final photography shoot is only in two weeks time.  I still have so much to complete so my blog and facebook page has fallen very quiet of late.

My new "Sailing Through" collection  will be on show at the Wey Gallery in Godalming ,Surrey from tomorrow.

I  will be showing at an exhibition in Autumn and at present am working on my workshop schedule for 2012. The first gorgeous workshops will take place in February and I will be releasing dates and information for the year ahead soon.

Next year I will be holding workshops in February,April and June in UK.
Until everything is finalised I will leave the details for now because there is usually a race for bookings! I hope to have everything online by the end of this month and the only advise I can  offer to secure a place is please book early as my sessions next year are really limited. This is due to my book launch, new DVD filming and exhibitions. But the good news is the sessions I do have available are going to be the best ever!

In fact I can't wat!

Launch of a New Collection 2011

"Sailing Through"

" Sailing Through"
from a new collection showing at
The Wey Gallery next week.

I don't think I can now remember a time when I haven't started my blog explaining how busy the week has been but again it has been a very  incredible time. I have prepared a new collection  for The Wey gallery and all the paintings are now framed and ready to be delivered. They won't be on show until  Monday 5th September and I am really looking forward to the launch.

My husband is a keen sailor and prefers the more adventurous challenges whereas I prefer to sit  and enjoy  sunshine on board  rather than the speed in which a boat is moving! Having said that I love the sounds and feel of the sea. I believe they  ,just like  painting, get into your soul.  The exciting elements of  the thrill of an exhilarating sail were my aim in each piece and they have been an amazing experience to develop to their completed creation.

It has also been really fascinating listening to comments from visitors to my studio as the collection has taken over my easel and working space for a while. In fact I am going to miss them !
