Dreaming of Spring!

Spring Fusions. Almost complete.
Bockingford Watercolour Paper 140 lbs and I love the way the flow worked on this.
Winsor and Newton Shades

I closed my studio session today with more  narcissi. I have completely found my freedom and colour selection purely by playing with studies and small watercolour sketches. This is so much better than my previous  studies and looser in appearance.Light, fresh and with a composition that is pleasing to me.

Now I can move to large paper  with no inhibitions and enjoy the use of large brrshes and large brushstrokes.

When we work on small pieces of paper we often find ourselves trapped in adding too much detail. It is far easier to express yourself by moving your arms when you paint not just your wrist!

Tips for today.

1) Practise small studies of favourite subjects often.
2) Play with colour combinations.
3) Work BIG when you feel comfortable with both colour and subject
4) Use expressive brushstrokes.............

And smile, painting is supposed to be a joy not a chore!
